Shakespeare and Renaissance Association of West Virginia

Davis&Elkins College on Friday and Saturday, 16-17 April, 1999

This academic year's meeting of WEVSARA, the Shakespeare and Renaissance Association of West Virginia, will take place at Davis&Elkins College on Friday and Saturday, 16-17 April, 1999. The conference registration fee, payable to Davis&Elkins College, is $30.00. The Friday evening banquet will be a buffet on campus ($20.00), and another $5.00 will purchase a discount-ed ticket to the production that night of William Wycherley's "The Country Wife" by the D&E theater department.

We invite individual papers or complete panels on any aspect of the English or European Renaissance, from approximately 1500 to 1660, in literature (especially Shakespeare, Milton, Tudor and Stuart drama, and the literature of the English Renaissance and seventeenth century), history, art history, philosophy, and musicology. Presentations on the Globe Theater, marking its quarter centenary, or, given the Friday night entertainment, on Restoration drama, would be welcome as well. Papers read at the conference are eligible for publication in the year 2000 volume of SRASP, the Shakespeare and Renaissance Association Selected Papers, edited by Byron Nelson of West Virginia University. SRASP is also now an electronic journal as well, edited by Ed Taft of Marshall University.

The keynote speaker will be Lois Potter of the University of Delaware, author of Secret Rites and Secret Writing: Royalist Literature, 1641-1660.

Please send a completed paper (of no more than 20 minutes reading time) or a detailed abstract to:
