Four Centuries of Shakespeare in Europe
University of Murcia (Spain), 18-20 November 1999
Covering the three general areas of scholarship & criticism, translation and performance, the conference seeks to bring together scholars from different European countries to assess the impact of Shakespeare's work in various cultures from the 17th century to the present. Together with three keynote lectures by Balz Engler (U. of Basle), Martin Hilský (U. of Prague) and Dennis Kennedy (Trinity College, Dublin) and four short lectures by Boika Sokolova (U. of Sofia), Manuel Gómez-Lara (U. of Seville), Marta Gibinska (U. of Cracow) and Jean-Michel Déprats (U. of Paris-Nanterre), there will be seminars on each of the topic areas mentioned above, for which colleagues from all over Europe are invited to submit papers.
Proposals of papers on any of these areas (Scholarship & Criticism, Translation and Performance), including a title and brief 150-word abstract, should be sent no later than 31 March. If proposals are accepted by our conference academic committee, contributors will be asked to submit a complete (10-12 page) version of the paper, which will then be discussed by members of the appropriate seminar during the conference.
