Race, Gender and Nationality in Shakespeare
Undergraduate Shakespeare Conference
November 13-14, 1998
Susquehanna University
Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania
We invite you to send students from a Shakespeare / Renaissance Drama / Early Modern Literature class to participate in the Fourth Annual Undergraduate Shakespeare Conference to be held at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania on November 14 and 15, 1998.
This conference seeks performances, film sessions, workshop discussions, interactive presentations and papers concerning race and gender issues in Shakespeare. Special consideration will be given to work on Titus Andronicus, Othello, Richard III, The Tempest, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Shakespeare's sonnets. The conference will include special sessions on Shakespeare and Film, Shakespeare in Performance, workshops on Othello and Shakespeare's sonnets, and traditional sessions where papers will be presented.
Designed to foster scholarship at the undergraduate level, this conference provides a forum where undergraduates may discuss, share ideas, and present research with excitement, confidence and fluency, and encourages connections between people interested in Shakespeare. Abstracts of papers, performances, film sessions, and performance sessions are due Friday, October 30, 1998. Papers should be about 7-9 pages long (reading time about 15 minutes). Those interested in joining a workshop should also submit abstracts highlighting points for a 3-5 minute presentation they will deliver as part of the workshop itself.
The conference will start at 2:00, Friday, November 13, 1998, and sessions will continue through Saturday afternoon. Please announce the conference to your students and join us in November.
Susquehanna University is covering the cost of registration for all participants. Selinsgrove offers inexpensive accommodations, and room subsidies are available.
