Many of the papers will focus on Bunyan's life, faith, and works, but papers addressing other literary, historical, political, or theological concerns from the seventeenth or early eighteenth century will also be presented.
While in Edmonton, the conference delegates will enjoy selections from Vaughan William's opera based on _The Pilgrim's Progress_ and Benjamin Britten's _Company of Heaven_. The Bruce Peel Special Collections Library will have on display its vast holding of the works of John Bunyan and various seventeenth-century printers.
From Edmonton, the delegates will travel by chartered bus to Banff. Their pilgrimage through this vast province will be comfortable, leisurely, and full of delight.
Delegates may fly into Edmonton and out of Calgary, and those who choose to travel directly to Banff may take a shuttle with Brewster's from the International Airport.
Many scholars who form the nucleus of John Bunyan scholarship and seventeenth-century studies will be there. They include: Vera Camden, Dennis Danielson, RM Frye, Richard Greaves, NH Keeble, John R. Knott, W.R. Owens, Alan Rudrum, Stuart Sim, and TL Underwood.
Junior scholars and students are especially encouraged to submit papers. Please send to copies of ten-page papers to David Gay, The English Department, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, T6G 2E5. If you want more information about the Society, or registration materials for the conference reply to me directly.
Keep in mind that the Canadian dollar is valued at 30% less than the American one when you are doing your calculations. In Banff, the accommodations range from a high of $109 single occupancy, including meals and nutritional breaks to a low of $74 double occupancy, including meals and nutritional breaks.
